One of the legendary tracks in motorsport, and in the history of Formula 1, may be approaching the finish line. In an interview with Gazzetta Dello Sport, F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone was asked about the current Italian Grand Prix in Monza, and said “It’s not good. I don’t think we’ll do another contract, as the old one has been disastrous for us from a commercial point of view“. On first appearances this is not a good sign, but Bernie Ecclestone is well known for using the media to full effect when negotiating new Grand Prix contracts.
