See Ford’s New Smart Headlights

Of course there’s a bit more to things than just having smart headlights, but that is where Ford’s Research and Innovation Centre in Aachen, Germany comes into it’s own. The main basis of the technology sees an independent set of spotlights fitted with each headlight that are then able to pivot and focus on individual targets. When GPS and mapping data is available the lights will adjust to bends along with dips and rises in the road that would normally be missed, however the addition of infra-red sensors is where things get really interesting. Lane markings, signs, road markers and even pedestrians and animals would come under the detection of infra-red cameras as the vehicle is driving along, almost acting as automated night-vision goggles for the spotlights to focus with….
