The tapes go-up on the 2017 FIM Speedway Grand Prix season this weekend with the competition opener being significant for all three riders sponsored by ignition specialist NGK Spark Plugs
NGK reckon they can spot a winner when they see one. And speedway is a sport where NGK seem to be on a roll. Why speedway you may ask. Well what’s not to like about racing inches apart? At over 70mph. On bikes with no brakes. You get the drift?
Four-times World Speedway champion Greg Hancock of the USA will be looking to get off to a positive start in bidding to retain his title, Matej Zagar will be looking to win in his Slovenia homeland, while Russian Emil Sayfutdinov will be making his long-awaited return to the championship after a four-year absence.
NGK Spark Plugs Marketing Manager Mark Hallam said: “NGK is a long-time supporter of Speedway and I’m sure that many of our customers who are fans are looking forward to the start of the new GP season. All three riders will feature the new NGK motorsport logos on their racing leathers this season which I’m sure will attract a lot of attention at all the Grand Prix, both trackside, and on television where they will once again be broadcast by BT Sport.”
The new season begins on Saturday, April 29, in Krsko, Slovenia and finishes in Melbourne, Australia in October. The 12 round season also includes the 2017 ADRIAN FLUX BRITISH FIM SPEEDWAY GRAND PRIX which is being held in Cardiff on the 22nd of July.
NGK – the leading supplier of original equipment (OE) spark plugs, glow plugs and NTK Lambda and other engine management sensors – has long been synonymous with the two-wheel bike scene where its spark plugs have helped the world’s leading teams and riders to numerous victories.
