Research released by Direct Line has shown that the proportion of women convicted of drink driving offences has almost doubled over the last 15 years. The figures show that in 1998, 9% of drink related motoring offences were committed by women, whereas that figure had risen to 17% by 2012. This growing problem may stem from people underestimating their competence as drinking habits have changed over the years. A glass of wine with lunch or in the evening has become more the norm, but our hectic everyday lifestyle means jumping in the car while over the limit is happening far too often.
